Beaver Scouts are boys and girls aged between six and eight years and are the first and youngest Section of Wheatley Scout Group. The name of our Colony is Rainbow.
Beavers can ‘swim up’ to the next section, Cub Scouts, when they are eight years old. Recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.
The Beaver Scouts meet every Monday during term time between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. When a new member has attended meetings for about 6 weeks they will be invested into the Colony. There is a very short ceremony where the new Beaver Scout will make the Beaver Scout Promise and receive the membership badges, group scarf and woggle together with a joining certificate and Beaver Scout log book.
Beaver Scouts enjoy many activities including handicrafts, games, singing, trips and visits. Each term Beavers work towards gaining one of the Challenge badges needed to gain the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award. Any of the Activity badges can be earned individually during a Beaver’s time in the Colony.
Many of Wheatley Scouts, Cubs and Beavers have been instructed by Sensei Roland Read and his team on karate. Sensei Roland was chosen to run with the Olympic torch and kindly brought it in to show the Beavers.
Each week a parent helps out with our activities; such input is invaluable to our Leaders and, at the same time, parents gain an insight into Beaver achievements.
